TV Traffic Coordinator

A traffic Coordinator prepares the scheduling of television projects and thus supervises the flow of work within the premises of a media agency. A traffic coordinator provides the necessary guidelines to initiate the media projects in a particular time frame. He shall also take care of the pending jobs in the production process and maintain a track record of existing jobs being done.

Pre-Requisites for Traffic Coordinator:
  • Any person who wants to become a Traffic Coordinator must have a degree in business, engineering, or any equivalent discipline.
  • A Traffic Coordinator has to work under hostile circumstances and he should have enough stamina to cope with the challenges of the daily life.
  • Sometimes, the traffic Coordinator has to work independently, so he should possess good organizational and management skills.
  • He should be proactive enough to meet the daily challenges and he should be able to work in close collaboration with official authorities.
Traffic Coordinator works as a significant interface between media world and the outside world. Traffic Coordinators are those people who are accountable for delivering the suggestions / grievances to top management of all the departments in the company.

Responsibilities of Traffic Coordinators:
  • A traffic Coordinator congregates, interprets and processes on-air radio log information to complete products.
  • He also maintains the daily listings of the events and also amasses, processes diverse requests for equipment usage.
  • He is also accountable for Video Tape Library and drags tapes on air, performs associated computer entry.
  • He also maintains standardized systems for traffic maintenance in order to create reports and fulfills the requirements coming from various sources.
  • He maintains a check over the performance of the trainees and also processes requests for services through electronic mail.
  • He is also answerable for the back up of the main computer machinery and attends the switchboard back-up.
  • He also maintains shipping and receiving services for program tapes and general requirements of the radio station.
  • He is also responsible for entering and maintaining traffic underwriting orders for television and radio.
  • He does reconciliation jobs of underwriting blemishes on daily on-air programs for television and radio.
  • He is also responsible for maintaining cordial relationship between team members and for this he must possess good interpersonal skills.
  • He has to give qualitative services at all counts so he must be good at customer relationship management.
  • He should have good command over English and he should be capable enough to handle the job responsibilities well all by himself.
  • He should be capable enough to prioritize his work according to the environment and he should possess an independent approach towards work.
  • He should be aware of the latest development going around in the field of computers and technology so that he can apply the necessary modifications when required.
  • He must have practical expertise of on-air processing so that he can cope up with the upcoming challenges of the competitive media industry environment.
The job of a traffic coordinator is a crucial one, but sometimes in the media industry, the coordinator is tested on his skills and patience when team members fail to perform the jobs assigned by him. This job demands high pressure on the part of individuals, so if they are making plans to enter in this field, they should be capable enough to handle the complexities of the media industry. Sometimes this profession can be interchanged with TV Director and the Director is responsible for maintaining the proper scheduling of all the programs that are being shown on any particular day.

Today, TV has become an imperative part of our lives and the global media industry requires incorporating many modifications with new generations coming in as viewers. Today, viewers have diverse choices pertaining to TV programs. Owing to the demanding nature of the viewers the Television industry has gone through several changes and Traffic Coordinators have to understand the mode of the market.

The demand for Traffic Coordinators has been increasing daily for various reasons. The connoisseur traffic coordinators are in great demand as they are acquainted with the environment of the TV industry. The on-air music shows and anchoring programs do not have any room for improvement, so the traffic coordinator has to see this thing vary carefully.

The schedule which the Traffic Coordinator prepares for daily programs must also incorporate the proper place for advertisements as sponsors do require a positioning amidst TV programs. A person who has acquired previous experience in the TV trafficking industry can understand the significance of the TV programs because he is entrusted with a very difficult job.

Sometimes, Traffic Coordinators have to bear the pressure of standing for at least 7-8 hours. Normally a person will not be able to do this comfortably, so for this the person should be physically fit, which will make him preferred. He must be flexible enough to make changes when required because some programs may entail simultaneous changes.

Traffic Coordinators perform critical jobs in which they have to cope with the pressure entailed upon them from the TV industry. They are required to possess the latest knowledge of software development so that they can apply these changes in their work also. The TV industry has assumed a global form that has no room for any kind of mistake so the Traffic Controller has to understand this thing very carefully. The delivery of on-air programs must be conspicuous so that the TRP of that program can be increased up to maximum levels. The TV industry demands qualitative professionals who can perform their best in all circumstances.
