Maybe you hear about it through the grapevine, or through other media sources. Maybe it is something that you are hearing a lot about on the internet or TV or radio, and what to investigate further. Then, you need to have the investigation skills that you will use in order to get as much information about the story as you can. You will want to make sure that you are getting the right types of information, and doing the right research and interviews so that the information comes across as clear as possible for you. This might be something that takes a while, and there are skills here that you will have to possess. However, you will be in charge of getting the story.

Lastly, you must report the story. Whether you are posting the video of yourself reporting online, working with a camera man and news crew, or doing any other sort of reporting, you need to be available to get that story wherever it needs to go and make sure that it is heard and seen.

In order to work in TV jobs or in video journalist jobs, you need to have several skills. First of all, you need to be creative and be able to pay attention to the world around you so that you can come up with interesting and creative takes on things that are making the news. Secondly, you need to have the drive and ambition to get out there and report on these things that are making the news. Thirdly, you need to have good research and reporting skills. You need to be good at getting information out of sources – doing research in books, magazines, online, and other media sources, and also getting information during interviews. For that, you need to have great people skills and wonderful interview skills. Then, you should be able to make the most out of the interview that you have done.

Lastly, you need to have wonderful reporting skills. You need a voice and a personality that will translate in a great way to the camera, and you need to look good on tape. You need to not by shy or camera shy, and you need to be willing to put your best foot forward, as well as your best face forward, to be able to report on any story that you might have heard about.

Work Your Way Up

In order to do video journalist jobs or TV jobs, the best thing that you can do is to work your way up .Most likely you will start with college or school publications, and basic cable programming. As you make a name for yourself, you need to start to build up your resume and also your portfolio. That way, as you hear about other jobs to which you would like to apply, you can get the applications and have a chance of working your way up. The best way to become a video journalist in any regard is to start at the bottom, work hard, and continue to work up the ladder until you have the type of job that you want to have. The good news is that with video journalist jobs, and with TV jobs, there is always room for another promotion, and always something to aim for.
