Programming Technical Services & Operations (PTSO) is responsible for the acquisition and technical compliance of all content scheduled for use across our linear and non-linear platforms, the dissemination of content metadata for scheduling, consumer research and licensee payment, and the distribution of assets for home entertainment and international distribution.
Specifically to this mission statement, the Director, Post Delivery Technical Services oversees the team tasked with ensuring that all programming released for exploitation on HBO’s platforms conform to established technical standards and are formatted to include all
enhancements. The responsibilities of this group touch all areas of the department, which include the management of team members and complex technical projects, training new and current employees on evolving departmental procedures and new technological concepts, and driving the development and improvement of existing workflows as business needs evolve. The proper and efficient management of this overall process has a profound effect on the organization as it ensures HBO’s product maintains the highest standards for exploitation across current and future outlets.
Execute the overall scheduling and timely completion of all HBO Original Programing and licensed content requiring technical evaluation prior to distribution across all HBO platforms and ancillary markets (Linear, HBO GO, HBO NOW, HOD, FOD, DVD/Blu-ray, EST, etc.)
Oversee the technical evaluation workflow to ensure all employees are equipped with the required skills/information needed to properly evaluate all assets acquired for distribution
Govern the process of analyzing all technical flaws discovered during evaluation and liaising with the correct representatives to address/correct the noted issues (Original Programming, Sports, Home Entertainment, Enterprises, Studios, Vendors, etc.)
Supervise the management and maintenance of the equipment/software located in each of the technical evaluation screening environments (AmberFin, monitors, routers, encoders, etc.)
Aid in the continual development of current and future digital infrastructure/workflows, specifically leveraging technical knowledge, experience, and expertise
Spearhead special projects related to new technologies, regulations, and/or current workflows to ensure the successful planning, execution, and implementation of the desired initiative (HDR, UHD, Video Description,
Analyze new production/post production technologies introduced by the content providers to ascertain any negative impacts these new technologies could have on HBO’s delivery platforms
Provide leadership to foster a cohesive team environment and to ensure the proper understanding and compliance of the department’s established technical standards
5-7 years of experience working in the television or film industry in a production and/or post-production quality control capacity
3-5 years of experience managing direct and indirect reports
Expertise in mastering and distribution workflows, techniques and standards
Proficient with various file formats such as MXF, AS-O2, OP-1a, ProRes, IMF, etc.
Extensive knowledge of television broadcast and broadband distribution technologies
Familiarity with next generation formats such as UHD, HDR, Dolby Atmos, etc. a plus
A motivated self-starter who expresses a willingness to learn new skills and stay current with broadcast technology trends
Superior time management/multi-tasking/leadership skills and the ability to thrive in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
Aptitude to make autonomous decisions and use sound judgment consistently and effectively
Must be proficient in both Windows and Mac OS, Linux experience a plus
