DESCRIPTION DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW UC San Diego Extension is fully self-supporting, operating year-round (12 months of active instruction) with a budget of $45 million annually in primarily fee income. The unit has over 200 career employees, including academic, management, staff and executive, as well as represented and non-represented positions. Many casual or contract employees and student workers also serve in the organization. In addition, Extension employs about 1,000 active by-agreement instructors. Extension operates in 200,000 square feet of managed space, including a large off-campus classroom facility. The unit maintains a robust online learning platform, operating 24\/7 (including some Spanish language elements) with web-casting and video-conferencing capability. Extension also a strong web presence with e-commerce operating 24\/7. There are over 60,000 enrollment transactions annually; 35,000 outreach certification transactions and 25,000 service transactions. Extension supports a robust network of representatives, agents, and students (both residential and online) around the globe. Along with all of this, Extension operates two television stations, a variety of public lecture programs and is active in federal, state, local, and private research and technical assistance programs and activities. UCTV and UCSD-TV are widely distributed public-serving, noncommercial television stations and media platforms that present in-depth coverage of new ideas, key issues and emerging talent. The stations feature interviews, documentaries, lecture-based events, studio talk programs and concerts from throughout the University of California system. POSITION OVERVIEW Producer uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional to create public-serving video for television and online distribution. Meets with clients and partners to develop content, define production strategy, and oversee projects to completion. Researches, writes, and creates materials for a variety of factual, documentary, and current affairs videos. Foresees studio and remote production needs and oversees production crews. Responsible for basic non-linear video editing, defining additional program elements, and overseeing final editing. Responsible for program quality and completion on time and on budget. Responsible for writing marketing material, writing funding proposals, and managing budgets. Responsible for program scheduling. Responsible for reporting to partners and clients and working as part of a busy team. Participates in marketing efforts and secures underwriting for programs. QUALIFICATIONS Thorough written, research, editing, presentation, and interpersonal communication experience. Strong experience with television writing. Experience conducting interviews with subject matter experts and distilling information. Demonstrated experience in video and television production and editing, with programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, to effectively create quality programs. Thorough experience in technology, including methods of broadcast operations. Experience with all elements of field and studio video production including staging, camera angles, lighting, audio and editing in order to oversee television production personnel. Experience to direct a video crew and produce quality programs. Thorough knowledge of various types of programming. Proven experience creating professional quality video programs within limited budgets and creating a variety of video styles including documentary, interviews, panel discussions and short feature stories. May require experience in broadcast operations. Proven experience optimizing video for broadcast and web-based distribution.
